Our Produce -- by Season
What is Non-GMO and IPM Produce?
GMO stands for genetically modified organism which means that the seeds have been altered in a lab and have had unnatural substances added to them. GMO crops require more pesticides. They have been banned in several areas throughout the world because the data still does not reflect that GMO crops are healthy for human consumption. Non-GMO Produce is better for you because it is grown from a naturally occurring seed that has been grown through the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM is a way of farming that maximizes the growth of healthy crops by combining different strategies and practices to encourage natural pest control. The idea is not to eradicate pests completely, as this can cause resistant strains, but to keep the pests within an allowable limit. Non-GMO and IPM produce has been grown with the combined effort of fewer pesticides and natural techniques to ensure that the produce is healthy for human consumption. Produce is a great source of natural fiber and vegetables. It is best to buy produce grown locally, as this will ensure that you are receiving the freshest and healthiest food for your table.
